Sunny Blue is a family owned company that opened in 2010 as the first “made to order” omusubi store in the U.S.

The owner, Keiko Numano, always dreamt of owning her own business and began finding inspiration in writers like Murasaki Shikibu, a famous female novelist, and the film Kagome Diner, which tells the story of a woman who moves far away from home and opens her own omusubi business.

After a trip to Japan, where she tried all the omusubi flavors she could find, she knew she needed to bring this unique Japanese cuisine to California. Since our opening, we have been driven by our desire to provide a fresh Japanese food experience to our community and to do so with the best quality ingredients.

Omusubi derives from the Japanese word “musubu” meaning “to hold together” and dates back to the 12th century when Samurais were known to carry them as portable food on the battlefield.
